Falkirk started slowly in the penultimate league game of the season, but came into the match, with the Greenock keeper saving a Michael Watson lob from the top of the D, Ally Wilson and Ryan Thomson were unlucky with runs into the circle. Douglas Nicol did well to keep the Greenock midfield quiet , but it was a goal line clearance from Paul Paton that kept the game goalless. Brian Kemp made a number of excellent saves, but was beaten by a short corner routine 2 minutes before half time. Falkirk equalised at the start of the second half, a John Scott free hit being collected at the far post by Watson, who turned and drove the ball into the bottom corner. The rest of the half became disjointed as the umpires gave out 5 yellow cards amongst both teams, but it was as Falkirk were temporarily down to 10 men that Greenock won the game. A run into the box by the Greenock sweeper resulted in a clash of sticks and the award of a penalty, which was duly converted. Falkirk still had chances to equalise with some good breaks, but they came to nothing.

Falkirk GHG II 2
Watsonians won 3-2 on penalties
Falkirk put up a creditable display against this side from the Regional League Division 2, considering several key players were absent from this Sunday game. Iain Fraser looked comfortable with the ball and was rewarded with the opener. The Edinburgh side soon drew level but were visibly shaken when Ross Anderson once again put Falkirk back in front, but in a moment of disarray at the back, Watsonians capitalised to destine the teams to a Penalty Flick shoot out. Good flicks by Iain Fraser and Charles Kemp were unfortunately not enough to take Falkirk into the quarter finals of the cup.
The young Falkirk side faced a side who were 3 divisions above them in this reserve plate game and in some parts of the game it looked like it would be a walkover for the home side after they went up 2-0 within 15 minutes. Falkirk just kept plodding away and finally went in at 3-0 at half-time. The second half started with Falkirk getting a goal through young Jonathan Nugent through excellent passing. MIM replied with a well worked penalty corner routine, and started to keep up the pressure on Chris Taylor in the Falkirk goal, who brought of some world class saves to defy the MIM forwards. In all it was an excellent display by the young Falkirk side and they can hold their heads up high to know that in a few years they will be able to play first division hockey.
