This was Falkirk's' final match
in the National League. The match started off with Falkirk making all the
plays but they were unable to penetrate the visitors' defence.
After around 20 minutes the deadlock was broken by Ally Wilson, who after
a mazy run, sent the ball crashing into the backboards to put Falkirk one
goal up.
The visitors were finding it tough to keep the Falkirk side at bay and could
only manage to play Falkirk on the break. A few slack passes by Falkirk allowed
the Aberdeen midfield to make a long pass to their forwards who charged at
the Falkirk shooting area. Caught up field, the Falkirk midfield could only
watch as the visitors forced a penalty stroke. Stephen Egan in goal was up
to the task though and made a very good save to keep the home side in the
lead.
Only minutes later Ally Wilson's' masterly stick-work led to a penalty stroke
which he coolly slotted to make it 2 - 0.
At the turnaround Falkirk stepped up the pace. Kevin Russell, commanding the
midfield bombarded the Hazlehead defence allowing Ally Wilson to complete
his hat trick for the day. Hazlehead pulled back one goal from a deflection
at a penalty corner. But straightaway Falkirk were up the field and forced
a penalty stroke, which Stafford Dickson easily put past the Aberdonian keeper.
In the dying seconds of the match Dickson latched on to speculative pass by
the visitors, drove the circle and shot at goal. The goalkeeper went down
low to make the save with the ball rebounding to Arthur Robertson just outside
the shooting area. Robertson carried the ball to the edge of the D and let
fire. As the ball went thundering towards goal Scott Morrison deflected the
ball high into the net to put the match beyond doubt.
