Ross Crerar hit the ball into the box for Gregor Maxwell to fire the ball through the keeper's legs, and then added a second on his own account. A Jonathan Reid through ball found Maxwell to make it three with the students claiming a late consolation score from a penalty corner award. Joe Trodden was forced to retire after being hit in the face, and required hospital treatment.

On the artificial surface at George Watson's school, the hosts opened the scoring after five minutes from a corner award. Clark Whitton set up Iain Cameron for his attempt at an equaliser, with Amrit Dhillon trying hard after work by John Russell. Going further ahead from another corner routine, the Edinburgh side were shocked when Charles Kemp clinically executed a penalty corner opportunity to pull one back. Going further in front with three more scores despite the best efforts of Scott Morrison in goal, a late last-minute scramble in front of goal resulted in Mark Stewart adding a late score.

David Sharp opened the scoring, the Uni equalised, Sharp scored again, and the Uni equalised. To end this ping pong, Jonathan Anderson broke the deadlock, with Ally Wilson putting the result beyond doubt.
