Falkirk GHG III 2
Falkirk began the second half of their league campaign attacking from the off on the Peffermill water-based astro and indeed opened the scoring with a well-worked short corner. Joe Trodden scored from close range after a Ross Crerar cross. A few minutes later, a fine flowing move ended with Jonathan Reid setting up team captain Gregor Maxwell who finished with a low crisp shot into goal. Defensive stalwarts William Simpson and David Sharp kept Falkirk strong at the back, which, with a series of good saves, by Kevin Cumming in goal ensured Falkirk a clean sheet and two more useful league points.

Falkirk GHG V 1
With the likelihood of the Bathgate
astro having thawed out after the recent sub-zero temperatures, this league
encounter was switched to Peffermill, and went ahead albeit slightly late
once the surface there had thawed out. A good save with the stick of Jamie
Ballantine in goal stopped the student's early pressure, and Johnathan Nugent,
David Humphreys and Adam Dyer had shots dangerously close to goal but not
just close enough to matter. The Uni picked up a bad clearance from defence
and the inevitable happened to give them the one-goal lead at the break. Jamie
Ballantine saved a penalty flick awarded to Edinburgh and Falkirk took heart
from this. It was good to see Stuart Taylor making his comeback after a spell
away from the sport and Adam Dyer slotting in well at the back. A second from
the University did not see Falkirk give up, and Chris Anderson pulled one
back but the leveller was to prove elusive.
