Waverley Inveresk III 0
Falkirk GHG II 4
The seconds travelled to Goldenacre to play Waverley with a less then familiar line up. Missing six regular first team players Falkirk could have been forgiven for thinking that they were in for a difficult game. This was not to be the case though as Falkirk ran out comfortable 4 - 0 winners. Falkirk arrived to find there opponents short of a player, and soon found an attacking footing, with Joe Troddan and Derek Morrison working well in midfield. From a sideline hit mid way through the first half, the ball found it's way to an unmarked Stuart Taylor in the D, to slide a precision shot past a stranded keeper to kick off the scoring. Shortly afterwards, after good work from Gordon Anderson, Gregor Maxwell found himself free in the D, despite his initial effort being saved, he was at hand to thump the ball into an empty net for the second goal. After the break Falkirk continued in this way, and were soon to add a third through some nice build up play between Ross Crerar and Scott Coventry which saw Gregor Maxwell get his second. With only a couple of minutes left on the clock, Falkirk completed the scoring, after a well worked short corner routine saw Willie Simpson pick out Joe Troddan at the near post to slot the ball into the empty net.
Falkirk GHG IV 1
Falkirk GHG V 2
This game was like all other inter-club played at full tilt with no quarter given, and it was one of the best matches this season with both teams playing to win. The younger 5th XI showed that they also have some excellent skills with young Iain Webster playing the midfield general and Chris Thompson taking his position at right back playing some excellent defending hockey. The 4th XI absorbed a lot of pressure from the 5ths and it was half-way through the first half when a well struck through ball found Captain Chris Taylor in his usual forward position diving to strike the ball round and under the oncoming keeper to have it curve into the goals for the first goal. The 4th XI tried to pressurise the 5th XI defence but with keeper Craig Malcolm in excellent form and the defence of John Galloway, John McPherson, Robert Russell and Chris Thompson playing as if their lives depended on it there was no way through. The second half started the same way as the first, but with the 4ths having the upper hand, but the midfield of Iain Webster, Stewart Laing, Duncan Kehoe and David Humphries held, along with the defence, shots from various players in the 4th XI resulted in saves off the line or just going past the goals. The 5th XI second goal came from a penalty corner that was stopped on the line with a foot and John McPherson stepped up for the resulting Penalty Stroke and slotted it low past the keeper. This only helped to get the 4th XI fired up and they then had an onslaught on the 5ths goal, which eventually resulted in a goal in a goalmouth scramble which Stuart Gardner knocked over the line.. The 5th XI had some new players, which they used well in the rolling sub system and Chris Brodie, Gary Smith, Jim MacFadyen and also the local Shinty Coach Derry, playing his first game for a few years. Not forgetting young Alex MacFadyen in his forward position having a shot saved on the line, which could have made the final score three. In all this was a good game for the club showing that the youth system in the 5th XI is working as some of the young players were being enquired about for teams up the Club for next season.
