For this Reserve Plate Sunday game, the thirds travelled to the Glasgow University
Garscube Sports Centre to meet the bottom team of the Glasgow club. From the
opening whistle, Falkirk went up the park for Iain Cameron to take the first
shot at the Glasgow goal before 43 seconds had been clocked, followed six minutes
later when Craig Callahan, delighted to have an opposition, some of whom were
smaller than himself, reached the scoresheet with a well-placed hit. The Glasgow
side were not to be underestimated, and this, their development squad contained
some youngsters whose future in hockey will prove to be very bright given the
skill and talents they already possess, such that they levelled the game after
a poor performance in the Falkirk shooting circle. It was good to have him back
in the team, and Barry Warner then went up the park and was unlucky with his
shot just inches wide of the goal. Six minutes into the second half, Tom Russell
put the ball across for Iain Cameron to crack in the second, and the goal to
tie up the game and send Falkirk on to the last 16 of the Plate Competition
saw Cameron rattle in his second of the game, after a build-up by Tom Russell
and Craig Callahan. A good team performance overall, with Jamie Ballantine in
goal making the required saves to keep the Glaswegians out, Chris Dyer, John
Russell and Danny Gibney on form, and Robert Russell enjoying his first outing
with the thirds.
