Uddingston 6
Falkirk GHG 0
Falkirk slumped to their second defeat in a row on Saturday suffering a comprehensive
defeat against fellow title-challengers Uddingston. With the first goal going
to be all important, it was disappointing for the visitors that it arrived in
controversial manner. A pass that appeared to be dangerously deflected at Iain
Fraser was deemed not to be a foul by the umpire, although he admitted if the
ball had hit him the foul would have been awarded, the fact that the Falkirk
midfielder ducked meant that the umpire allowed play to continue, and this led
to Uddingston's first goal. Uddingston added a second soon after from a penalty
corner, and managed a third before half time to give them a comfortable lead.
The closest Falkirk came to pulling a goal back was from a Gordon Anderson reverse
stick shot, that was deemed to be dangerous, before a shot was illegally blocked
on the line. Despite the far side umpire signaling for a penalty, this was ignored
by the umpire controlling the box, and the chance was lost. Throughout the second
half, Falkirk tried in vain to get back into the match, but Uddingston prevented
them from getting any momentum with a series of fouls around the halfway line,
and continued to hit the visitors on the counter-attack to score another 3 goals
and run out comfortable winners.
Inverleith A 2
Falkirk GHG II 2
Falkirk went a goal down early in the game immediately following the harsh yellow
carding of Jason Park for descent, keeper Kevin Cummings was beaten at his near
post by a not so spectacular shot from an Inverleith youngster. Falkirk replied
twice before the half was up through striker Gregor Maxwell and winger Ross
Connell, both well worked goals and examples of what Falkirk's second eleven
can do. The second half was a scrappy affair, with more cards being shown, to
Graham Pratt for over eager tackling and then to Ross Connell who was red-carded
on the touchline for descent. Inverleith equalised with two minutes from the
final whistle, so both teams came away equal from an overall poor display of
hockey.
Inverleith B 1
Falkirk GHG III 0
The thirds travelled to Currie High School for this league encounter and were
greeted by a very different Inverleith team who had beaten them in the cup earlier
in the season. The game got off to a lively start with Falkirk defending well
and hoping to catch their opponents with the quick break. Dougie Smith was as
solid as ever at the back winning every tackle and Danny Gibney chased everything
up front to no avail. Missing several regulars the thirds chances were further
hampered when Davie Craig went off injured. Inverleith opened the scoring following
a sustained period of pressure. Falkirk might feel unlucky with the manner in
which they lost the goal, with the ball finding its way through the keepers
pads and into the net. At half time Falkirk made several tactical switches which
saw Ross Drummond make a welcome return to the team, haring well in the middle
of the park. Falkirk's closest efforts came from Danny Gibney and Barry Warner
from short corners, whilst at the other end Jamie Ballantine made a few great
saves to keep his side in the game however it was not to be and the thirds suffered
their first defeat of the season.
Falkirk GHG IV 4
Kinross 1
After last weeks defeat by the hands of Stirling, Falkirk were handed the points
by Waverley Inveresk Colts. Excellent organising skills by John Galloway managed
to organise a friendly against Kinross at short notice, Falkirk dominated the
play for the opening 15 minutes then sloppy defending saw the home side a goal
down, Falkirk then renewed the pressure and managed to draw level just before
half time through Robert Russell. The second half was a scrappy affair but saw
a further 3 goals for the Falkirk side one by Gordon Moffat and two by Stuart
Gardner, proving dogged determination and heart can win through in the end.
A big thanks must go to the Kinross side for a short notice game and for battling
all through the game.
Falkirk GHG V 4
Carnegie Juniors 1
This was a match that the young Falkirk side wanted to win and went out from
the start to make sure they did. The first goal came from a ball from David
Humphreys who passed back to Duncan Kehoe in the goal area who passed to the
unmarked Chris Taylor, who as usual at full length swept the ball into the open
goal with four minutes on the clock. Falkirk then kept up the pressure with
various onslaughts on the Carnegie goals and it was only when Per Dullforce
crossed a cracking shot into the goal area to find Jonny Anderson at the front
post to net his first of three. The second half started with Carnegie having
a flurry of penalty corners for various infringements and eventually they broke
the defence down and squeezed a ball past Craig Malcolm in goals. This only
meant that Falkirk stepped up a gear and produced another two goals through
Anderson who as usual was in the right place to receive them.
