Watsonians III 1
Falkirk GHG II 1
Falkirk GHG III 5
Watsonians IV 2
The 3rd XI bounced back to winnings ways with a very comprehensive victory over Watsonians 4 in this East District match. Immediately from the start the Falkirk side looked comfortable, passing the ball well and creating chances. Falkirk GHG’s two top strikers, Iain Cameron and Jonny Anderson caused havoc up front with their vision and drive, while Duncan Kehoe, who had recently come up from the 5th XI was magnificent in the middle of the park. Kehoe’s energy was immense, driving the ball at the Watsonians defence with every opportunity. The first goal came after 10 minutes when some excellent play by Barry Warner on the right wing created an opportunity for Mark Stewart. His shot was well saved and Iain Cameron was there to score from a tight angle. Young Kehoe ran and ran with the ball and other openings fell around the box, one of which was converted by Jonny Anderson. A right hand side long corner was met well by Anderson who made no mistake with his finish. In defence Dougie Smith, played through the pain barrier, and was sensational as ever, not missing a tackle. The defence coped well with a series of short corners against them and before long the 3rd goal came for Falkirk with Jonny Anderson once again the scorer. He picked up a loose ball and ran at the defence, beating several defenders before firing home from the top of the D to make it 3-0. The first half rout was completed by Iain Cameron who got his second off the game after the ball bounced off a Watsonians defenders stick and straight into the Falkirk striker’s path. With a 4-0 scoreline to defend the 3rd XI took their foot of the gas and were reminded it was not all one way traffic when Watsonians pulled one back from a short corner. At the other end Kehoe’s energy was still creating openings with Anderson and Warner both coming close. Eventually Anderson completed his hat trick by showing a poachers instinct, getting in quickly to round of a scramble in the D. Watsonians pulled back a second goal late on but it was Falkirk’s day was they were worthy victors which perhaps was reflected in the 5-2 scoreline.
Carnegie VIII 4
Falkirk GHG V 0
Falkirk went to this game with 9 players and no umpire, but last minute dealing
resulted in the home side supplying both umpires and Falkirk having a full
squad. The home side are the league leaders and it showed in their play with
Falkirk having Young Jamie Ballantine in goals who had a very busy game although
Carnegie got 2 goals in each half the only goal that was well played was their
first and it was really defence errors for the remaining 3. This though was
a very good game of hockey and both teams at the end thoroughly enjoyed it
and it could have been a different story if Falkirk had their full squad and
could have possibly drawn with the league leaders or just stolen it, we will
never know.
