Match reports for 8/1/05
Falkirk GHG 4
Greaves Clydesdale 7
Falkirk were hoping to exact a measure of revenge for their pre-Christmas defeat
by Clydesdale, but again, they were unable to do enough to claim any points.
In an even first half, 6 goals were shared, with Falkirk replying to the Clydesdale
strikes by goals from Ally Wilson (2) and Iain Fraser. The turning point in
the match came early in the second half, after Kevin Russell was sin-binned
for retaliation after being continuously fouled on the boards. Clydesdale made
good use of their extra man, and managed to fire in 3 further goals before Falkirk
got back to full strength. Ally Wilson completed his hat-trick with a few minutes
left, but before Falkirk could get any closer, Clydesdale notched up their seventh
goal to make sure of the points.
Falkirk GHG 3
Glasgow Eastbank 5
Despite the best laid plans, Falkirk never got out of second gear in this match,
and were punished by a sharp Eastbank side. Ally Wilson opened the scoring for
Falkirk, but a penalty and 2 goals from penalty corners turned the game round
to give Eastbank the lead. Ally Wilson had a chance to reduce the deficit just
before half time, but after rounding the keeper at the top of the box and preparing
to shoot into an empty goal, the umpire inexplicably blew for a foul on the
Falkirk striker, rather than allowing the advantage of a goal. Falkirk pushed
forward from the start of the second half, but were unable to find the goals
to get them back into the match, as Eastbank netted twice more to edge further
away. Chris Anderson netted Falkirk's second with 4 minutes remaining, and although
Michael Watson scored from a penalty corner in the final seconds, it was too
little, too late for the local side.
Sheilds 2
Falkirk GHG II 2
Falkirk’s second eleven travelled to Titwood to take on Shields in a warm-up
game before their league visit to Peffermill next week & braved bitter weather
conditions. Falkirk began with 10 men due to 2 call-offs on the day meaning
Steve Sutton had to hold whistle and stick to make up the numbers. There were
also a number of regulars missing for various reasons. Those that did play
shook off the festive indulgences to play some good passing hockey and create
a number of chances with those shots which were on target put the home keeper
in all sorts of trouble, scoring twice to end the game honours even. Shields
scored once in each half firstly from a flicked short corner and then a second
half breakaway goal. The signs look good for the second half of the season.
Graeme High School 1
Falkirk GHG V 3
On Saturday morning, this friendly was nearly was lost thanks to the weather,
but Alan Jenkins (S6) was pleased his School side turned up to play Falkirk
GHG 5th XI. With David Connell (S5) in goal for the School side, there was
some good play from Alan McDonald (S5) Scott Hamilton and Alistair Nayer (S6),
and Martin Campbell (S1), such that the teams were level at the break, just
as a blizzard swept down the pitch. Venturing outside for the second half
once conditions had improved, the visitors went on to win 3-1.
