Falkirk’s 2nd’s travelled to Edinburgh Uni’s home turf at Peffermill to take on their 3rd string XI, hoping to go one better than the 2-2 away draw at Grange last week. This weeks clash began with the home side scoring first with a good square ball into the Falkirk D taken first time & shot past the Falkirk ‘keeper. Falkirk replied before half time when Ross Crerar was on the spot to coolly tuck away a spill by the floundering Uni ‘keeper. The 2nd half saw Falkirk take the lead as Scott Coventry calmly rounded the Uni ‘keeper & scored Falkirk’s second goal. Edinburgh Uni kept coming at the Falkirk defence towards the end of the game but the Falkirk back line stood firm ably assisted by the very hardworking midfield. The 2nd’s unbeaten start to the season continues.

Rarely would the old cliché a game of two halves be more appropriate
than in this encounter. Although the match ended in a disappointing 2-2 draw,
Falkirk appeared to be cruising after going 2-0 up before half time thanks
to well taken goals from Tom Russell and Barry Warner. The second half could
only be described as the proverbial Mr Hyde performance. Indiscipline was
a major problem as goalscorer Russell was shown a yellow card and others were
lucky not to follow. Falkirk conceded a very controversial penalty flick to
bring the score to 2-1 and with tempers raging and tackles flying in Inveresk
scored a dramatic equaliser with the last hit of the ball.

As usual the Uni team arrived late with the normal ploy of vehicle trouble,
but give them their dues they knew how to play hockey and play hockey they
did. Falkirk should have had at least four goals today, but again, as last
week they hit the post from a screamer from Javad Azfal to shots direct at
the students keeper who blocked them all. Stirling took the lead halfway through
the first half and added a second just seconds before half-time. The second
half started with Javad's hit at the post and various other attempts even
birthday boy Stewart McNeill had a few attempts at the goals to no avail.
Eventually a goal was gained through a goalmouth scramble and pushed over
the line by Jonny Anderson to save some of the blushes from the home side.
