Match reports for 10/12/05
Carnegie V 4
Falkirk GHG III 1
The 3rd XI looked to bounce back from last weeks defeat by producing an improved level of performance against a Carnegie side, who seemed stronger then could be expected, with one individual in particular showing stick work more befitting of National League. The game started quickly with both sides having early chances, however it was against the run of play which Falkirk lost the first goal when a Falkirk attack move broke down and Ballantine in goal was left helpless with careless marking leaving a Carnegie player with a simple finish. Looking to bounce back immediately, Falkirk produced a series of short corners with Chris Dyer, Davie Gallagher and John Russell all having efforts well saved by the home keeper. Falkirk did manage to equalise, when a neat pass from John Russell caused havoc in the Carnegie defence and Danny Gibney was on hand to finish well. However from the restart Carnegie took the lead again with slack marking again to blame. At this stage the game was even, with both teams having chances. The second half saw Falkirk start very strongly when a series of chances were spurned, however the afternoon was to get worse, with Falkirk reduced to ten men. The sending off was to cost Falkirk the game when Carnegie took full advantage of their extra player and were to score two goals. Captain Scott McNeill would like to thank everyone who has played and umpired for the 3rd XI in 2005 and wish everyone involved in the game of hockey a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Carnegie Juniors 2
Falkirk GHG V 2
Falkirk began this last league outing before the festive break in promising form, but completing the road to goal was to be their problem of the day. Eventually Stuart McNeill worked down the right wing and crossed the ball to Simon Robertson who was on hand and waiting to knock it in at the back post for the opener. McNeill later received a ball from Alex McFadyen but just missed after a one on one. David Humphrey's perseverance was rewarded with the award of a penalty corner, but Craig Harper missed the lay-off. A similar situation at the other end saw the Fife hosts find the back of the net, despite the best efforts of Graeme High pupil David Connel making his debut in goal whilst deputising for the absent goal minder. After the break, Falkirk battled hard to secure a win but Dunfermline went ahead. Despite a period of sustained pressure from Falkirk, it looked as though they would never score in a month of Sundays, until Humphreys redeemed himself with a tap in from close range to level. The dying minutes saw Carnegie threatening, but only some determined defending by John McPherson, Chris Thomson and Craig Harper allowed Falkirk to return home with a point from this encounter.
