Falkirk GHG 2
Perthshire Gowrie Growers 2
This was the last match before the mid-season break for Falkirk, and once again,
the home side passed up the opportunity for 3 points. From the start, Falkirk
dominated the play, containing Perthshire in their own half, and started to
create chances. Douglas Nicol forced a save from a penalty corner, and shortly
after was denied again by a fine save from the Perthshire keeper. Michael Watson
and Chris Anderson combined to leave Watson with a clear chance, but the effort
was blocked by the Perthshire defence when it seemed easier to score. Such was
Falkirk's domination that Davie Ferguson managed to get in on the act, despite
playing at left back, but got caught in two minds at the top of the box and
the visitors managed to clear. Perthshire had one decent foray into the Falkirk
half after a slack pass from the home side, but Graham Miller produced a solid
tackle to win back possession. Falkirk finally managed to make their pressure
pay off when they broke the deadlock shortly before half-time. Ferguson started
the move after winning the ball on halfway and played the ball inside to Nicol,
whose strike into the box was deflected past the Perthshire by Michael Watson.
The single goal lead at half-time was scant reward for their domination, and
Falkirk set out at the start of the second half to tie the game up. Falkirk's
second came after a strong tackle in the middle of park from Arthur Robertson
saw the ball break to Watson, who beat one man before picking out Chris Anderson
at the back post to score from close range. From a penalty corner, Douglas Nicol
weaved through the Perthshire defence and found Stafford Dickson, but for the
second week in a row, his shot hit the post. Perthshire raised their game after
this, and got a goal back from penalty corner of their own, before equalising
minutes later with a tidy back post finish after Falkirk appeared to switch
off. Anderson and Watson tried to set each other up for a winner on a couple
of occasion, but each time the final pass was too strong to be converted. Perthshire
finished the game on the attack, and had chances to snatch victory at the end,
but Falkirk were left kicking themselves after more crucial league points were
allowed to slip away.

Falkirk GHG V 5
Falkirk travelled to Fife for this friendly as both teams were out of the
Cup, and quickly Gregor Maxwell had a shot saved off the line in the third
minute. One minute later, former Graeme High Dux Medallist and School Captain,
Simon Robertson, making a welcome return to the Club, opened the scoring.
A Craig Harper shot into the circle found Maxwell who then made it two with
a snap shot from the top of the D. Maxwell made it three in the 18th minute,
before the hosts pulled one back a minute later. The second half opened with
Maxwell driving towards the opposition circle and firing a precision pass
to a waiting David Humphreys at the right post who had not difficulty in tapping
the ball into the goal for number four of the game. The Fifers came back into
the game once they began a more interpassing game, and pulled back two more
goals, the second from a penalty corner award, but Falkirk were not finished,
and Ross Dickson was unlucky not to score as he found himself free in the
circle to take a shot at goal, but in the last seconds of the game, Simon
Robertson made it five.
