Match reports for 15/10/05
Carnegie V 6
Falkirk GHG III 3
The 3rd XI started brightly in this cup match at Rosyth. Within the first minutes of the game Jonny Anderson forced a save from the home keeper as the Falkirk side created a series of chances which they weren’t able to convert. They were to be punished for missing these early chances when Carnegie scored with their first attack of the game. Soon after Carnegie added a second from a hit at the top of the D. In the aftermath of the goal, Falkirk were reduced to ten men for dissent and were to lose two more goals as a lack of organisation in defence which saw Carnegie cruise in front. With all eleven players restored to the pitch, Jonny Anderson pulled one back from close range following an excellent save from the Carnegie keeper. The second half saw Falkirk pick up the pace and play some of their best hockey in recent memory, creating chance after chance. Jonny Anderson added a second to his total with a deft touch in the D and then a third shortly after, converting a long corner hit. Falkirk were on top, playing the game in the Carnegie half and creating chances but to no avail, as the Carnegie keeper pulled of a series of exceptional saves. As Falkirk pushed for the equaliser they left gaps in defence and it was from these that Carnegie scored another two short corner goals to win 6-3. The scoreline definitely flattered the home side, who were run ragged by a much improved second half performance. The thirds were left to ponder what might have been, had they kept their discipline.
Falkirk GHG IV 0
Hillhead IV 4
Falkirk's mindset was on a friendly encounter but it turned out to be a cup fixture and from the outset knew they were in for a tuff game, with a yellow and red card being issued within the first 2 minutes of the whistle. Four chances in the first half from Hillhead saw 3 goals and several chances from Falkirk saw the visiting keeper being troubled but still no score. Again in the second half Falkirk had some good chances but unfortunately the keeper was on form and the attack frustrated, good passing from the whole team just were not quite good enough as the Hillhead team were just to dominant in most areas, a further goal by the away team summed up the day.
