Falkirk GHG III 8
Watsonians IV 0
Continuing their excellent form of late, the 3rd XI secured an emphatic victory
over Watsonians 4 in this East District division 2 encounter. With several regulars
missing from the normally settled side, brothers Chris and Gordon Anderson were
added to the squad, with both set to feature heavily in this match. The match
started with an early injury scare, when Ross Drummond was forced off with a
nasty eye injury after an off the ball incident. Housewife's favourite Drummond,
was taken to hospital where he received 5 stitches to the wound. He can only
hope that this injury does not affect his chances of scoring next Saturday.
Back to the action and it was Danny Gibney who opened the scoring for Falkirk,
before adding a second from a short corner. Further first half goals followed
from Chris Anderson and John Russell, before Danny Gibney completed his hatrick.
The second half started with Watsonians in the ascendancy and Robert Thomson
in goals looked lively with some excellent short corner saves. Davie Gallagher
was unlucky with a few decisions, however Falkirk always looked in control.
Chris Anderson added a further 3 goals, the highlight of which was a fine solo
run which ended with an unstoppable shot past the keeper. In the end 8-0 was
not an undeserved scoreline with Falkirk always looking the stronger of the
two teams. Another fine performance from the Clubs only unbeaten team.
Falkirk GHG V 1
Watsonians Colts 1
Compared to the previous game on the pitch at Linlithgow Academy, when the Edinburgh
side could only raise ten men, this Watsonians team had no player shortage with
the maximum number of permitted subs, five, on the bench. The Falkirk side weathered
a great deal of pressure in the first half, with Craig Malcolm in goal showing
one of the biggest crowds of the season, why he is capable of playing at a much
higher level in the Club. It was some time before the visitors from Edinburgh
eventually broke the deadlock, and it looked as if they would do more damage.
However the last ten minutes of the first half saw Falkirk harrying the Edinburgh
goal but unable to turn all this pressure into a score. After the break, Watsonians
again came on strong and kept the Falkirk defence hard at work; John McPherson,
Chris Thomson and Mathew Morley keeping them at bay. It was the last part of
the game as Falkirk again woke up that the Capital side became worried by a
good pass by Braes High pupil Ross Dickson to fellow pupil Mark Slater who bulleted
the ball into the goal to level the game, much to the chagrin of the visitors.
Falkirk were not finished and Linlithgow Academy's Alex McFadyen on his first
outing of the season sent a useful cross to Dickson but the winner was not to
be as the shot was wide.
