Dundee Wanderers III 3
Falkirk GHG III 1

The reserve plate offered a break from league duty for the 3rd XI who had only been beaten once since the Christmas break. However with only four of the regular players making the trip to the City of Discovery, Captain Scott McNeill was pleased to welcome players from all segments of the club into his team for this game against Dundee Wanderers 3. Dundee looked the stronger side in the opening spells, with only a top class save from Craig Malcolm and strong defending from Willie Simpson and Kenny Laird keeping the Dundee side at bay. However, the inevitable happened when Dundee opened the scoring midway through the first half. Jonathon Nugget and Per Dullforce harried well in the middle of the park and Chris Dyer tackled very strongly to stop Dundee increasing their advantage. A half time switch immediately seemed to reap rewards for Falkirk, when two powerful balls into the D came close to being converted. The thirds battled hard and scored a deserved equaliser when Scott McNeill’s long ball found his brother Stuart in space in the D. Stuart showed great composure to skilfully place the ball past the onrushing keeper and make it 1-1. Dundee however showed why there are a good side, responding quickly to take the lead from a penalty corner and then made it 3-1 from a penalty flick, following a great diving save from McNeill. Simon Robertson came close to pulling another goal back but only a sharp block from the Dundee keeper prevented the Falkirk player from scoring. On reflection, a decent result against a very good Dundee side and a good learning experience for some of the younger players.
