At last the 2nd 11 that played so well in the pre-season friendlies turned up for a competitive fixture. The 2nds turned in a performance full of excellent hockey, both attacking and defending from the start against their Uni opposition. Despite the finishing of Captain Derek Morrison (who should have had at least 3) Falkirk still managed an impressive 7 goal haul, conceding just 3 in return. A first half brace from Gregor Maxwell, one following a fine run down the left from Hamish Hutchison, and goals from Graham Millar, Craig Gove, and James Robertson, following some fine work in the midfield from Joe Troddan, Davie Gallagher and Ross Drummond, saw Falkirk take a commanding 5 - 1 lead at half time. The 2nd half started badly for Falkirk though conceding a couple of goals to bring the Uni team back within touching distance. However 2 excellently taken goals from Gregor Maxwell to complete is hat-trick and James Robertson put the gloss on an excellent team performance. In the final few minutes Uni battled hard to get back into the game, but a fine double save from Duncan Service and excellent defending from Kenny Laird and Davie Sharp kept the Students at bay.
