Stirling Wanderers 5
Falkirk GHG II 4

The 2nd XI travelled to Dunblane on Saturday to take on newly promoted Stirling Wanderers hoping to record their first league win of the season. Despite Gregor Maxwell scoring his first league hat-trick of the season, and a fine strike from a penalty corner from captain Derek Morrison, the team went down to a 5 – 4 defeat. With no game this coming weekend Falkirk will have to wait 2 weeks for another chance to pick up their first 3 points of the season.

Falkirk GHG III 2
Edinburgh II 0

With no game last weekend, the 3rd XI looked to get back to winning ways following a hard fought draw the previous fortnight. Missing 5 regular midfielders, the Falkirk side knew they were in for a hard game against a side who had not been beaten in an impressive start to the season. The game got off with a period of early pressure from the Falkirk side who were trying to use the space and width of the park to create chances. The first real chance of the game came to Falkirk. Willie Simpson’s quick hit found Ross Drummond in space, but the midfielder couldn’t control the ball. At the other end Dougie Smith made a crucial save off the goal-line from an Edinburgh penalty corner. As the half wore on it was Falkirk that had most of the possession but couldn’t turn their accession into goals, with Cameron coming close on one occasion. Joe Trodden battled hard in the midfield always winning 50-50 balls and getting the home side back on their way but the Falkirk outfit couldn’t find their way past a well organised defence. The second half saw Falkirk begin quickly, with Johnny Anderson working incredibly hard in an unfamiliar role behind the front two. Falkirk were to take the lead midway through the half through some impressive passing hockey. Scott McNeill played a short pass to Danny Gibney, who showed fine vision by picking out young Alan McDonald. McDonald’s pace saw him outrun the Edinburgh defence before squaring the ball to Johnny Anderson at the top of the D who produced a top-drawer finish to beat the keeper. Falkirk soon had a chance to double their lead when some nice play by Ross Drummond found Per Dullforce with space on the wide left position. Dullforce played an inviting cross into the back post where Gibney slid in but couldn’t quite make contact. Edinburgh almost made the home side pay for this miss when they immediately broke down the park and shot wide. However it was Falkirk who scored again in almost a carbon copy of the first goal. Again Danny Gibney was instrumental in finding Alan McDonald in space down the right hand side. Again McDonald’s seething pace and power got him past the Edinburgh defence and again Anderson was waiting top D for the cutback to produce a cool finish for his second goal of the game. McDonald looked a handful for the visiting defence and the youngster can be pleased with his performance. Edinburgh tried to fight their way back into the match but Willie Simpson and Ross Connell both produced goal-saving tackles to prevent further scoring.
