Match reports for 25/11/06AAM Gordonians 8
The new indoor season got off to a poor start for Falkirk, but it was always going to be tough against an Aberdeen side that play in Division 1 outdoors. After losing an early goal, Falkirk hit back through Douglas Nicol, and almost took the lead when Michael Watson's shot hit the face of the post. Aberdeen found the net twice more in the first half, but the gap could have been less had Iain Fraser's goal not been disallowed. Although there wasn't much between the 2 teams, Aberdeen were more clinical in front of goal, and soon built up a commanding lead. Falkirk pulled a goal back from Watson's penalty corner flick, and Stafford Dickson was denied from the penalty spot by a brilliant stick save, but Aberdeen ran out deserving winners.

Falkirk GHG 6Falkirk's second match of the day against a team playing in division 1 outdoor, and their second defeat, although this match was a lot closer. Falkirk opened the scoring through Michael Watson, and although Edinburgh managed to score twice, Watson scored his second with a reverse flick to keep the teams level. Edinburgh dominated the last 10 minutes of the half, scoring 4 goals from corners and although Watson scored twice more, Falkirk went into the break 6-4 down. The local side got the upper hand at the start of the second half, and drew level with Watson's fifth goal of the match and Chris Anderson's close range deflection, but Edinburgh's fifth penalty corner goal 5 minutes from time proved to be enough to get them all 3 points.

Falkirk GHG II 2Falkirk travelled to Rosyth on Saturday for a fiery encounter with Carnegie. After a closely fought first half, and despite Falkirk scoring what appeared to be 2 legitimate goals, the teams were all square at 1 all thanks to a Stuart McNeill equaliser. The second half was played out in the same manner as the first, with both teams going in hard to try and win the game, but ultimately fairly. Over the course of the half Carnegie opened up a two goal lead, which Falkirk reduced to one in the dying minutes, leaving the final score 3 - 2 to the home team. Another week past without recording a win for the Falkirk team.
Carnegie V 3
Falkirk GHG III 1The 3rd XI made the short trip across the River Forth to face local rivals Carnegie at Rosyth. The Falkirk side had an incredibly poor record against the Fife team away from home, with the unusual surface always difficult to adapt too. The 3rd XI started very brightly and Danny Gibney came close to scoring in the first few seconds of the game, only to see his effort narrowly miss target. Falkirk were in the ascendancy, trying to pass the ball to success. The 3rd XI deservedly took the lead midway through the half when Liam Robertson continued his recent fine form, slotting home from the top of the D. Not since the days of Barry Warner have the 3rd XI had a midfielder with such a fine scoring record as Liam Robertson. As the first half wore on Stuart McNeill had a gilt edged opportunity to double the advantage following a Robert Spekman free-hit, but McNeill’s shot sailed past the post. At the end of the half Carnegie equalised from the penalty spot. Falkirk started slowly in the second half and were on the back foot, taking a pounding from the early pressure. The 3rd XI had Sam Hannah in goals to thank for keeping them in the game when he produced two stunning saves from penalty corners to prevent Carnegie taking the lead. However, with Falkirk pushing forward to find a winner, they left spaces in defence and were caught twice on the break to give Carnegie a comfortable win they scarcely deserved.
Falkirk GHG V 4
Carnegie Juniors 1It seemed an eternity before Falkirk managed to break the no-scoring deadlock, when Simon Robertson finally managed to put the ball into the back of the net, after several missed opportunities. Falkirk had so much pressure as they were encamped around the Fifers’ shooting circle, with chances for so many of the forwards to add to the scoreline. Jon Patrick harried away, while Mark Slater, making his first appearance of the season after being sidelined due to work commitments, joined in the attack from his right-back position. Another new face in the team, young Andrew Baxter fitted in well on the right of midfield, and will be sure to be a useful asset to the team. Veteran defender William Simpson showed what it was all about, drawing on his wealth of experience gleaned over the years, to powerfully slam the ball into the goal from a penalty corner award for goal number two. Chris Brodie was to claim the other two scores, but the Dunfermline side did manage a concolation score.
