Falkirk GHG 3
St Andrews University 2

Despite losing Arthur Robertson in the warm-up, a reshuffled Falkirk side got back to winning ways with a deserved victory over St Andrews. Falkirk made the better start and came close when Douglas Nicol's pass into the box was deflected narrowly over the bar by Michael Watson. Despite all their pressure, the home side couldn't force the breakthrough, and as St Andrew's played their way into the game, they took the lead with a deflected shot from the top of the box. This lead was almost doubled minute later as a snapshot came of the post and across goal, where Davie Ferguson was on hand to prevent a tap in. Falkirk finally got off the mark and equalised before the break from a penalty corner, James Moran squaring to Watson to score from close range. Falkirk took the lead with their first corner of the second half, Stafford Dickson flicking in at the near post, and Falkirk's third arrived shortly after, when Nicol burst into the box, and his cross was turned into the net by a backtracking defender. St Andrew's attempts to get back into the match were thwarted by another solid defensive display from Rennie and Miller, and on the handful of occasions where a chance did present itself, Robert Thomson provided assurance between the sticks, including an impressive reaction save from a rebound. Thomson was finally beaten by a deflected shot in the final minute, but the home side managed to hold on to claim the 3 points.

Falkirk GHG III 1
Waverley Inveresk III 5

This match was certainly one the 3rd XI will want to forget in a hurry. Waverley Inveresk took an early lead and despite Danny Gibney equalising midway through the first half and everything went downhill rapidly. A final score of 5-1 probably fairly reflected the 3rd XI performance.

Inverleith Juniors 1
Falkirk GHG V 1

Falkirk made what should not have been a difficult task look just that, spurning chance after chance to put the ball away into goal. However, it was the Edinburgh hosts who opened, picking up a deflection off keeper David Connel’s pads. Falkirk’s equaliser was a while in coming, before, during a penalty corner routine, Derek Morrison saw his shot at goal saved and the ball fall to a waiting Jonathan Anderson, who popped it into goal. With a number of their regular team reported awol, team captain John Galloway brought in young Jon Patrick to make his debut for the Club and Jon was unlucky at the far post, not to get on the end of an Anderson ball crossing the circle to put it into the net. Braes High PE teacher Bobby Morton made what it is hoped will not be his only ‘guest’ appearance of the season, and helped add to the team’s strength and to the power of the midfield where with David Kinniburgh and Simon Robertson, chance after chance was created to go in front, but it was not to be, and the team came home having scraped a draw out of a win.
