Falkirk GHG V 5
Edinburgh HC Colts 3

The 5th XI welcomed Edinburgh Colts side to Linlithgow for this East Division 4 clash. The 5th XI got off to the worst possible start, conceding a goal in the opening minutes. This quickly became 2-0 to Edinburgh after less than 10 minutes and soon after 3-0 to the visitors. Most sides would have retreated and tried to prevent conceding any further goals, however great credit is due to the Falkirk side who refused to give up. They pulled a goal back when Scott McNeill squared the ball to Jonathon Nugent in the D who slipped it under the keeper. McNeill came close with a powerful shot and from a penalty corner Willie Simpson saw his well struck effort saved. However, Falkirk did find a second goal after some lovely passing hockey from Mark Slater and Per Dullforce saw Simon Robertson find space at the top of the D to hit a screaming shot into the bottom corner for an outstanding goal. Falkirk spoke at half time about using the width of the pitch to find an equaliser and immediately from the restart Alastair Kerr, who was outstanding on the right hand side of midfield, used the space well to put powerful cross into the D which was narrowly deflected wide. Chris Taylor came close at the back post to equalising and at the front post McNeill narrowly missed the target. Falkirk finally equalised from the stick of Willie Simpson after a series of penalty corners. The home side weren’t finished yet and continued to push forward in search of the winning goal. It duly came from Chris Taylor, when he scored a typical goal, sliding in to meet a well hit cross. The scoring wasn’t finished there with Falkirk putting a gloss on the win, with Jonathon Nugent scoring a cheeky back stick flick to give Falkirk a well deserved victory. The 5th XI can feel proud of themselves, fighting back from 3-0 down after 15 minutes to win 5-3 and playing some outstanding passing hockey in the process.
