Match reports for 1/9/07The 3rd XI traveled to the scenic Kinross pitch as they continued their preparation for the new season. Ross Dickson and Chris Dyer returned to the side for their first games of the season and Martin Waddell who only recently joined the club, turned out for the 3rd XI against a strong Kinross side who won promotion last season. Kinross scored two early goals, both of which caused by Falkirk’s rustiness in defence but the 3rd XI came back into the game when Danny Gibney and Alan McDonald linked well, only for McDonalds flash shot to nearly miss the target. Gibney came close to scoring at a penalty corner and then John Russell saw his effort well saved by the keeper. Stuart McNeill then came close when his powerful run found space but he couldn’t hit the target from the top of the D.
It wasn’t all one way traffic however with Jamie O’Neill in goals making a few top quality saves to further deny Kinross. As the second half got underway, Falkirk came flying out of the blocks from the start but found the Kinross keeper in top form, as they couldn’t find a way to goal. At times Falkirk looked very impressive and finally John Russell scored from close range, following up after the Kinross keeper made a good save. When Falkirk scored Kinross looked a deflated side and a second goal followed soon after when a lovely Scott McNeill 16-hit let Gibney run free into the D, before he was unfairly brought to ground. From the resulting penalty flick, Gibney slotted home to equalise. Soon after Falkirk scored again, with Gibney this time provider, when his pass to Alan McDonald found the pacey striker with space to run into and then place a lovely finish into the bottom corner. Three minutes later Falkirk scored a 4th goal when Robert Spekman’s penalty corner hit found its way into the bottom corner via a massive deflection from the helpless defender. Five minutes later Falkirk made it 5-2, saving their best goal to last when Chris Dyer started the move with a pass to John Russell. Russell played a lovely ball to Danny Gibney, who showed amazing vision to pick the run of Ross Dickson out at the back post with a powerful ball. Dickson showed his brilliant ability by meeting the ball and with one touch lifting it above the keeper. Falkirk tired and Kinross scored 2 goals, which were caused by sloppy defending but couldn’t find an equaliser giving Falkirk a 5-4 win. At times in the second half, Falkirk completely ripped Kinross apart and looked as good as they have at any time. The only negative was the continued indiscipline of certain players.
