Falkirk GHG 3
Quasar 1

Quasar's unbeaten record came to end at Linlithgow as Falkirk notched up their first home win of the season. Falkirk got off to a great start, with Douglas Nicol orchestrating the play from a more advanced role, and created a series of chances that they were unable to convert. The breakthrough came when Michael Watson converted a penalty corner, and with 30 seconds Falkirk were 2 up, as Nicol made a telling interception and found Watson in the box, who squared to Jonny Anderson for a tap in. Falkirk started the second half at a similar pace, but lost a goal from Quasar's first real attack and penalty corner. The visitors thought they'd equalised from another corner a minute later, but the goal was ruled out for an illegal slap-shot. Falkirk were temporarily reduced to 9 men as a result of querying a couple of umpiring decisions, but defended stoically to remain ahead, and even earned a corner of their own after Iain Fraser's 70 yard run helped to relieve the pressure on his sides defence. Once back to full strength, Falkirk forced a series of corners, but poor decision making and a lot of visiting feet prevented any clear opportunities. With time running out, Falkirk finally settled the game when Arthur Robertson plucked a lofted Quasar clearance out of the air, found Craig Gove in the box, and he squared to give J Anderson his second tap in of the day.

Canegie III 6
Reserve Cup R1

Falkirk 3rd XI were drawn against a superior side from the division above in this cup-tie. Despite a good opening 20 minutes, which saw Danny Gibney and Chris Dyer both come close, when Carnegie scored their first goal, there was going to be only one winner. A 2-0 lead for Carnegie at half-time didn’t reflect the effort Falkirk had put into the game. However, it is actually difficult to imagine how it would be possible to play any worse in the second half and Falkirk deservedly got beaten 6-0. In truth Carnegie probably could have won by even larger a margin and the only positive to take from this match was the continued excellent play by young Ross Dickson.

Falkirk GHG IV 3
Reserve Cup R1

After struggling to field a team for this encounter the Falkirk side took to the park late after a few navigation errors to find the Newton Mearns pitch, things were a bit ropey to start with, for the first 10 minutes nobody really knew what was happening and who was where, then a quick free hit from David Connell found a waiting Chris Brodie who sloted past the home side keeper, 4 minutes later a beautifully struck goal bound shot by Connell was taken on the line ro give Brodie his second. The home team were up for it but the midfield and defence stood strong and keeper Chris Taylor when called upon made some lovely kicks to keep the GHG boys on top. The start of the second half found a more fired up home team and it had to be old school style hockey from the back 4 of Sharp, Mcpherson, Morely and Pitcaithly, thwarting the onslaughts. The midfield of Waddell, Barton, Usher and Kerr kept the centre of the park alive and cut the home side apart and with Brodie and Connell up front making heavy weather of the chances they were given. Eventually silky display by Brodie ripping the defence apart slipped a chipped shot under the keeper completly fooling everyone including himself. The Falkirk side were tiring by the end only having the bare 11, but soaked up all the pressure and created lots of chances.
