Giffnock 7
Falkirk GHG 3

Falkirk's promising start to the season came to an abrupt halt with a 4 goal defeat at Newton Mearns, although on reflection, the scoreline perhaps flattered the home team slightly. Falkirk got off to a solid start, but lost an early goal when Giffnock broke up the park and scored with a shot from the top of the box that caught the inside of the far post. Falkirk went 2 goals down shortly afterwards as another breakaway ended with the original shot being deflected into the goal off a Falkirk stick which left Robert Thomson wrong footed. Giffnock's third also had an element of good fortune, as a hopeful ball up the park somehow evaded all of the defending sticks, and although Thomsom made a fine first save, the ball rebounded back to the home striker who slotted into the empty net. Giffnocks 4th came just before half time, and although Falkirk failed to muster a single decent challenge, the final touch came after Thomson's save deflected off a Giffnock stick into the roof of the net. Despite a frank half time talk, Falkirk were 5 down 2 minutes into the second half, when a poor pass was quickly capitalised on by Giffnock and clincally converted. Falkirk finally got off the mark when Stafford Dickson converted a corner, and pulled another one back when Michael Watson scored after Jonny Anderson initial shot was saved. Falkirk narrowly missed out on a third when Douglas Nicol's shot slid past the post, but within seconds Giffnock has scored again with another quick break, and added their seventh with 5 minutes remaining. Falkirk got their final consolation from a penalty after Chris Anderson's mazy run was abruptly stopped, with Dickson converting, but not one of their better days.
