Edinburgh Uni V 2
Falkirk GHG III 0

The 3rd XI travelled to Peffermill for the 3rd time in 3 weeks for a league game against Edinburgh Uni 5, a team who are close to the top of the division. Falkirk had close to their full team back for this encounter, with only John Russell missing from the midfield. In the first half Falkirk looked the better side and it wasn’t long until Dougie Smith had the ball in the back of the net, however the goal was correctly disallowed for the first shot at the penalty corner being above the backboard. Ewan Jeffery continued his impressive form from the previous week and always looked dangerous up front, linking well with Danny Gibney on one occasion only to see Gibneys flick narrowly miss the target. At the other end, the defensive line of Dyer, McDonald and Smith were preventing Edinburgh Uni from creating many chances. On one occasion when the university outfit did get through on goal, Jamie O’Neill made a wonderful save from a top corner bound shot. With the game locked at 0-0 at half time, Falkirk immediately pressed for an opening goal and Gibney again came close with a flick at a penalty corner, only for it to be well saved by the home keeper. However despite Falkirk’s good efforts Edinburgh Uni made the breakthrough with 15 minutes of the game left and then quickly doubled their lead for a 2-0 victory they probably didn’t reflect the good hockey that Falkirk played at times. A goal would have given Falkirk the upper-hand but once again they failed to score and this worrying problem cost them the points.
