Match reports for 17/1/09Falkirk GHG 22
Falkirk gave their goal difference a timely boost with a one-sided thrashing of mid-table East Kilbride, and reinforced their position at the top of the league. The opening goal came in the first minute from the unlikeliest of sources, as James Moran found himself in the attacking D for a change, and calmly finished off a flowing move for his first goal of the season. East Kilbride equalised immediately, but a hat-trick from Craig Strachan and doubles from Michael Watson, Iain Fraser and Niall Stott saw double figures notched up by half-time. Falkirk were slow getting out of the blocks in the second half, with only a single Strachan goal to show for the opening 8 minutes, but after East Kilbride managed 2 consolation goals in successive minutes, Falkirk's forward line clicked into gear. Another brace from Watson and single from Strachan all in the space of a minute got the scoreboard ticking over once again, before Strachan claimed another double to take his personal tally to 7. However, Falkirk's top scorer was outdone by his cousin, as Niall Stott rattled in 5 goals in the final 5 minutes to complete a second half double hat-trick, giving him a grand total of 8 goals in the match.

A second comfortable win saw Falkirk get within touching distance of the title and promotion back up to division 2, as they finished the day with a 6 point lead over second place Quasar, as well as holding a significant goal difference advantage. Despite dominating from the first whistle, it took until the 10th minute for Falkirk to open the scoring when Iain Fraser netted on the run from a narrow angle. A Gordon Anderson goal and 2 strikes from Niall Stott then saw Falkirk extend their lead by halt time. Yet another Craig Strachan goal blitz finished the game as a contest as the Falkirk coach slammed home 4 goals in as many minutes at the start of the second half, before Greenock managed a couple of consolation strikes. Michael Watson scored Falkirk's ninth before Strachan completed the scoring with another brace to complete his third double hat-trick in 4 games.
