Giffnock 3
Falkirk GHG 1

A win against bottom side Giffnock would have opened a significant gap between the 2 side, but a disappointing performance saw Falkirk dragged back into the relegation battle. Falkirk weathered an early storm, and took the initiative with Gordon Anderson making a series of runs into the heart of the Giffnock defence, where he was denied the opener by a double save from the home keeper. Falkirk finally took the lead when Douglas Nicol threaded a pass through the Giffnock defence for Michael Watson to score with a reverse stick deflection from the narrowest of angles. The lead only last a couple of minutes, as Falkirk conceded a terrible goal from a defensive point of view, but an absolute belter from a neutral's perspective. A run that started inside the Giffnock half evaded 5 or 6 challenges, and was spectacularly finished with a reverse stick shot on the run from an ever narrowing angle that flew in off the far sideboards, and swung the game on it's head as Falkirk's early impetus was lost. Giffnock took the lead from a penalty corner at the start of the second half, and although Falkirk nearly equalised when Watson's snap shot was touched onto the post by the home keeper, a third goal for the home side sealed the points. Falkirk kept pressing until the final whistle, but poor decision making and passing in the Giffnock half saw many moves break down before they really got started, and the home side comfortably held on for the points.
