It finally all came together for Falkirk at the weekend, as a stunning defensive display was coupled with some clinical attacking to record a resounding victory over an understrength Waverley in Edinburgh. Falkirk took an early lead as Watson and Strachan combined for the latter to slide his shot past the keeper, before Waverley played their way back into the match. The home side had the majority of possession, and briefly threatened with some big hits to the back post that were missing a finishing touch, but for the most part, the Falkirk defence kept them from penetrating the D. On the single occasion when the defence was breached, Thomson was untroubled as the shot was dragged wide. Falkirk doubled their lead shortly before half time as a series of baseline passes carved through the home defence to find Gordon Anderson on hand to slot into the bottom right corner. Waverley came out at the start of the second half determined to get back into the game, and forced Falkirk onto the back foot from the restart. For 15 minutes the visitors were unable to get the ball out of their own half, as possession was continually given away, and despite the pressure of a series of penalty corners, one of which Robertson cleared off the line, the Falkirk backline held firm. On the one occasion where the defence showed a little composure in possession, Falkirk sealed the victory with a classic counter attack goal. James Moran broke up an attack on the edge of the D, and the Falkirk captain found Watson on halfway with his clearance. Iain Fraser and Watson then combined to set up Strachan, who laid the ball back for Gordon Anderson to slap home his second of the match, beating 2 defenders on the line. Waverley almost pulled a goal back with a reverse stick shot that Thomson had to palm over the bar, but strong performances from Grey, Dickson and Drummond, and a man of the match showing from Robertson, meant that this was as close as they got. Falkirk's fourth arrived with 3 minutes to go, Fraser sending Chris Anderson clear of the defence to score with a delicate touch past the keeper.
