A point apiece suited neither side in their respective battles to pull away from the relegation place, and although both had reasonable claims on a victory, a draw was probably a fair reflection of a game where Greenock claimed the majority of possession, but Falkirk passed up the better chances in front of goal. Greenock opened the scoring in 5 minutes after Robert Thomson saved the initial shot from the edge of the D, only to see the rebound flicked past him. Despite getting into some promising positions, Falkirk's decision making and final pass kept letting them down in and around the box, but they finally managed to draw level before half time. Douglas Nicol and Michael Watson combined on the left hand side of the box to find Ross Drummond bursting through from left back, and he showed composure to slot past the Greenock keeper for his first goal of the season. The second half followed a similar pattern to the first with Greenock taking the lead after 2 players combined on a strong run from inside their own half, avoiding a series of challenges, before rounding Thomson and flicking into an empty net. Falkirk hit back immediately, as Gordon Anderson showed great tenacity on the left wing to force his way along the byeline, and although his cross was blocked, he reacted quickly to force home the rebound for his fifth of the season. Falkirk had half-chances late on to win the game, but once again, the final pass around the D let them down, and the final whistle left both sides disappointed.
