After last weeks success, there was an air of disappointment at the lacklustre display that saw Edinburgh University inflict a heavy defeat on Falkirk at Bathgate on Saturday. From the start, Edinburgh controlled possession as Falkirk sat back, and managed to suffocate the home midfield and force mistakes. Robert Thomson made a good save to prevent the opening goal as the EU forward tried to round him, but the deadlock was broken shortly after from a close range flick at a penalty corner routine that gave the Falkirk keeper no chance. EU doubled their lead shortly before half time when the ball was gifted to them on the penalty spot, whilst Falkirk's sole foray into the EU circle saw Watson shoot wide after good work by Strachan. The second half didn't start any better for the home side as another poor pass led to EU getting their third, before a quick break saw a penalty concede and converted to give the students a fourth. Craig Strachan pulled a goal back with a penalty corner drag flick, and then showed great skill to ghost past 4 defenders, but unfortunately his cut back failed to connect with a Falkirk stick. Falkirk continued to press, and thought they should have had a foul for a stick tackle on Nicol, but Edinburgh took full advantage to flood up the park to net their fifth. Strachan got his and Falkirk's second from close range after Chris Anderson's burst into the box, but despite a late flurry of activity as Falkirk finally exerted themselves, there was to be no further consolation.
