Match reports for 8/11/08Uddingston 2
After a last minute change of venue, Falkirk faced Uddingston at the Forthbank sports village in Stirling, playing on an international standard water based pitch which highlighted the dearth of facilities in the Falkirk area. With Uddingston requiring a win to confirm their place in the post-christmas promotion/relegation league for Division 1, and Falkirk coming off a poor result in Aberdeen, the safe bet was a home win. Falkirk had chances to open the scoring through Watson , Anderson and Rennie, but failed to trouble the Uddingston goal. The home side opened the scoring after a speculative aerial ball bounced past two defenders, and was clinically dispatched past Thomson, but were unable to extend their lead as the Falkirk defence limited them to a few half-chances. Falkirk equalised at the start of the second half after James Moran found Chris Gray in the box to slot home his first goal for the club, before Uddingston retook the lead from a penalty corner. Further chances arrived for both sides, but Falkirk's final ball let them down, whilst at the other end, another superb performance from Robert Thomson kept the visitors in the match, as he proved equal to everything Uddingston threw at him. Falkirk finally grabbed their second goal from a Stafford Dickson penalty, after Gordon Anderson's drag flick was illegally stopped on the line, and secured a point when Thomson pulled off a spectacular save low to his right, scooping away a ball that appeared to be past him, to deny Uddingston the goal that would have got them into division 1.
