Harris 3
Falkirk GHG 2

The first league game of the season saw Falkirk travel to Dundee to face Harris, and the visitors got off to a flyer when Craig Strachan forced home a penalty corner in the opening minutes. Falkirk doubled their lead after Gordon Anderson embarked on a strong run down the left wing, before picking out Douglas Nicol in the box who slotted home with ease. Falkirk had further opportunities to increase their lead, but were unable to capitalise on their pressure with Douglas Nicol and Falkirk captain Ross Drummond both coming close. Harris got off the mark from a penalty corner, expertly deflecting the ball high in the net, and this strike seemed to inspire the home side, as they took the game to Falkirk right from the start of the 2nd half, putting the visitors under a great deal of pressure. Harris equalised when a quick free hit was deflected into the air and volleyed home at shoulder height into the top corner, but it had arrived in controversial circumstances, as Falkirk believed they should have had a penalty corner seconds earlier. Falkirk were struggling to string 3 passes together at this point, and gifted Harris a third goal by turning over possession cheaply, although a similar fourth goal was prevented when Robert Thomson somehow clawed a point blank effort off the line, and then the Falkirk keeper saved a penalty to keep his side in touch. The visitors had opportunities to snatch a draw in the closing minutes, but Arthur Robertson and Chris Anderson both shot wide, consigning Falkirk to a disappointing defeat.
